A New Year

So Here we are already almost two months into the new year! I hope it is going well for everyone! I am staying quite busy as is evidenced by the scant few posts I have made, but here is one more! I have a few more photos to show you today. Some are older and some are new. Most are totally unmolested. i am trying to get some straight up point and shoot photos under my belt.

Untitled

I really like this picture. I know it isn't anything spectacular but the simplicity of it is wonderful to me. I would love to hear other opinion s on it, but I think this one will remain one of my personal favorites for reasons that I might never understand.

City Sunset (untouched)

So here is what the sunset picture looked like before I ramped up the color a bit. It is still pretty amazing. Several people had asked to see this so I decided to put it up!

Woodweb

Once again I am trying my hand at some black and white. I am not a huge fan of this one. It is too plain. I like the spiderweb like effect that the smaller branches create but the picture really has no other pros. I also centered the image which is really getting boring.

Ant

I have named this photo Ant because, to me, this is what the view must be like as one of those industrious creatures. The towering forest shown in the picture is actually made up of Sage plants. I like a couple of things about this shot. 1. I like the odd angle at which it is taken. It gives it a very different sense than any of my other pictures. 2. The black and white version was actually better than the color as it allows the focus to be more on the angle rather than the actual details.
What I don't like is that the bottom of the closest stalk blurs at the bottom.

So there we are a few more for your viewing pleasure. As always, please feel free to comment.

Hey Ian!

I really like the new pics! Actually, as I browse the rest of your page, I realize that I enjoy the entire collection. Keep me updated on when you post new photos!

Namaste.

Untitled is interesting because it focuses all my attention on the tree behind the two flowers. The blue is so dark that it kid of blends into the tree, which has some really great detailing in the bark. Really cool if I wanted show the insignificance of something by having them blend into the background.
Then there is Sunset, yes the beautiful polluted skies of B'ham.
Next is Woodweb which I would say is actually fairly successful. Here's why. The web of the tree branch thing isn't new, it's just kind of new to photography. By using black and white you've helped to mimic the original and more famous design that can commonly be found on plates around the border and other dishware. If the contrast was more sharply white and black, it would definately be the design one would see on a dish. It just needs more contrast.
Last is Ant...yea. Don't really like it, mostly because I don't feel the forest effect you talk about. I would need the lens to be wider, the angle steeper, and more tall greens for it to have that effect. The colors aren't that sharp and really...I don't know, it reminds me of the POV of a lazy dreamer in a field, sorta. But I don't like it. Sorry man, just personal preference. Anyway, I will try to send you some pics I took forever and a half ago so that you can rip them apart if you want. Peace!
